Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Facilities Operator II will work under the direction of the Supervisor and Forman and will perform general ice maintenance duties including operating ice resurfacing equipment, power edging, hand edging, ice measurements, installing and removing of ice / related marks, maintaining quality ice surfaces and ice thickness. They will be expected to maintain facilities records by observing and recording information on ice-plant operation, building maintenance, user statistics and any other information required. The Operator will appropriately handle, use, and store high-pressure gases, fuels, paints and toxic chemicals under existing federal and provincial guidelines to ensure a safe facility for workers and users. This position will perform minor construction, renovation, and maintenance of CWK facilities as well as various routine custodial and maintenance duties in CWK facilities to ensure a clean, safe environment for all user groups.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Arena Ice Maker’s certificate or a recognized equivalent to the RFABC course, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Provincially certified Refrigeration Operator Certificate or 5th Class Power Engineer (refrigeration endorsement) certificate
- Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector
- Occupational First Aid Level I
- WHIMIS 2015
- Minimum of 2 years related experience
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
- Forklift certification (preferred)
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and DDC Building controls
- Working knowledge of ice resurfacing and arena refrigeration plant operation
- Knowledge of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, fire fighting methods, emergency crowd control, and building evacuation
- Knowledge of WHMIS, janitorial practices, including safe and proper handling of waxes, cleaners and other chemicals used
- Ability to perform minor building and equipment maintenance tasks
- Ability to exercise courtesy, tact and diplomacy in exchange of routine information with members of the public
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
- Must be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work and emergency call outs
