Watershed Operators – 8 Month Seasonal

The Okanagan Lifestyle Is Calling! 

The City of West Kelowna is hiring 2 Operators to be part of the City’s Water Supply and Treatment department as Watershed Operators performing a variety of tasks in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the CWK’s infrastructure in and around watersheds and treatment plants including dams, spillways, diversions, and all related appurtenances.  The two seasonal positions will work 8 months annually, March – October.  In 2023 the positions will be hired for approximately 6 months.

Summarized Position Responsibilities:

Duties include working in remote areas in all weather conditions, brush removal with brush cutters, weed eater’s chainsaws etc., working around a variety of heavy equipment, vehicles, boats, and UTV’s. Landscaping, painting, construction, and garbage removal may also be required.  The successful candidates will have the ability to perform minor repairs and assist with assembly, removal, and adjustments of attachments to various pieces of equipment and fixtures.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Grade 12 education
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in general construction, brush removal related work, equipment operation or similar
  • Occupational First Aid Level I
  • WHIMIS 2015
  • Chainsaw Operations and Safe Practices - 8 hour WorkSafe BC recognized course
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License – heavy trailer endorsement preferred
  • EOCP Water Certification (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as small tractors, chainsaws, jackhammers, compressors, tamping machines, snow blowers, weed eaters, lawnmowers, saws, a variety of hand tools, etc. 
  • Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions
  • Able and comfortable to work in remote areas
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work and emergency call outs
