Summarized Position Responsibilities:

The City of West Kelowna’s Parks Department has a vacancy on its turf mowing team. This team fills the important role of providing high quality turf mowing to sports fields, parks and boulevards throughout the City, and consists of 5 personnel, including Operator I’s and II’s. This Operator I position will be responsible for line trimming, backpack blowing, mowing, seasonal cleanup/pruning and other related duties as required. It is a permanent full time, 8-month seasonal position, starting in March through October, annually. The work week consists of Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day, totaling 40 hours per week.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• Grade 12 education or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working in general construction, horticulture related work, equipment operation or similar
• Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License with a heavy trailer endorsement
• Occupational First Aid Level I
• Traffic Control Certification preferred
• Knowledge and previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as small tractors, weed eaters, lawnmowers, saws, a variety of hand tools, etc.
• Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions
• Necessary knowledge of safe working and operating procedures related to equipment and tools and work procedures required to assure public safety
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Able to courteously deal with the public and co-workers under stressful conditions and / or tight timelines
• Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work and emergency call outs
