CO-OP STUDENT – WATER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Powers Creek/Rose Valley Water Treatment Plants

The City of West Kelowna has openings for a 4 and/or 8 month students in the Water Engineering Technology field to gain valuable hands-on experience by completing a work term in our Public Works Department -Water Supply and Treatment Division at the Powers Creek and Rose Valley Water Treatment Plants

Infrastructure maintenance and operation are key components of Public Works and plays a large part in asset management.  The focus of this position will be to support Water Supply and Treatment Plant staff by performing a variety of tasks such as:

  • Process monitoring and testing (in-house lab) water samples for proper chemical additions
  • Record keeping and logs in the daily reports
  • Assists with repairs to plant equipment as needed
  • General maintenance and other duties as required
  • Occasional work in the watersheds will also be required.

Requirements:

  • Current enrollment in a registered Water Engineering Technology program at a post-secondary institution
  • Must be attending college or university during the last school term and returning to your studies in the subsequent academic year
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel,
    PowerPoint, Access)
  • Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills – verbal and written
  • High attention to detail
  • Physically fit in order to accomplish maintenance tasks
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license

The four-month co-op student term will start early May to end of August and the eight month term will start in May until December working 40 hours/week Monday to Friday. The hourly rate is $20.83 plus 4% vacation pay.
